Planning Commission Recommends Approval Of Alternative Mt. Springs Project

Sonora, Ca — With a 5-1 vote, the Tuolumne County Planning Commission is recommending that the Board of Supervisors approve the scaled down, 600 home Mt. Springs Community Project.

This is a reverse of a decision in May, when the Commission recommended by a 4-2 vote that the development, which was then proposed at 897 homes, be voted down.

?It´s been a long road, and there is nothing ever easy with concession,? says Developer Ron Kopf. ?At the end of the day, I guess a meaningful compromise did come out, with both sides making serious concessions.?

A total of six individuals voiced support of the project during the public hearing portion of the meeting, and an adjacent property owner voiced a single opposition.

The motion to recommend approval of the project was made by Commissioner Patrick Stone, with Ty Wivell seconding the motion. Also voting in favor were Jim Garaventa, John Latorre and Jerry Morrow. Larry Sidmore was the lone Commissioner voting in opposition.

Mt. Springs will now go before the Board of Supervisors on October 14.
