Sonora, Ca — The Mountain Women´s Resource Center organized a Denim Day Rally and March this afternoon in Courthouse Park in Sonora to raise awareness about sexual assault.
The Denim Day California campaign began in 1999 as part of an international protest of an Italian High Court decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim was wearing jeans. The judgment served as a symbol of myth-based injustice for sexual assault victims.
Concerned citizens joined the rally at Courthouse Park that took place from 3-4pm. The theme this year was “Peace begins with you.”
