C.H.P. Identifies Hwy 49 Accident Victims

San Andreas, CA — The C.H.P. has identified 79 year old Robert Bernhard of Arnold as the individual who suffered major injuries Tuesday afternoon in a single vehicle accident north of Angels Camp on Hwy 49 near Deer Creek.

According to the C.H.P. report 82 year old William Votaw of Arnold was southbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 2005 Cadillac SRX and drove off the roadway. The vehicle was launched over the Veterinary Hospital driveway. It then traveled some 250 feet before it struck a tree finally coming to a stop in a nearby field.

Bernhard was life flighted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Votaw was treated for minor injuries at Mark Twain-St. Joseph’s Hospital.

According to the investigating C.H.P. officer Votaw may have hit the accelerator when he intended to hit the brake.
