Stage Two Hwy 108 Bypass Construction Should Start Late Next Year

Sonora, CA — Caltrans is hoping that construction of phase two of the East Sonora Hwy 108 Bypass will start as early as December of next year.

Tuolumne County Public Works Director Peter Rei says the second phase will run from Peaceful Oak Rd. to Via Este. Once work starts it will take approximately two years to complete the project.

“There are a number of funding sources; all of which are secure,” says Rei. “$45 million out of the $65 million will come from Proposition 1B, which was a voter initiative approved in November of 2006.”

The project is designed to reduce traffic congestion along Mono Way. Work is scheduled to go out for bids in May of 2010 with a contract awarded around October of 2010.
