Knight Fire Causes Eight Month Road Closure

Sonora, CA — By order of the U.S. Forest Service a portion of the area burned by the recent Knight Fire will remain closed from August 20 through April 30, 2010.

The temporary closure provides for public safety and is enacted at this time because of the potential for falling trees or limbs due to wind events.

Additionally the order will protect portions of the burned area from excessive soil erosion and damage to roads later this year during the seasonal winter storms.

The road closure is based on a post fire assessment conducted by the Forest’s Burned Area Emergency Response Team.
