Lawmakers Say Negotiations Have Been Productive

Sacramento, CA — State budget negotiations between the “Big Five” lawmakers in Sacramento lasted approximately 2 ½ hours Saturday and more meetings are expected on Sunday.

According to the Associated Press, Republican Assembly Minority Leader Sam Blakeslee left the meeting saying, “I would say that we’re getting very close to a general framework, but there are still outlying questions.”

Meanwhile, Democrat Assembly Speaker Karen Bass was quoted saying, “I think what has happened over the last 48 hours has been the most productive in the last several weeks. We are just not finished.”

The talks focused on what programs and services would need to be cut and to what extent.
