T.U.D. Releases Annual Water Report

Sonora, CA — T.U.D. has released its annual water quality report, and one thing that stands out is that cryptosporidium was located in some of the district’s raw water.

T.U.D. Water Superintendent Brenda Seldon says, “It is a parasite that can live in humans and animals and it originates from fecal matter.”

The raw water is treated before being consumed by the public, but additional treatment and/or disinfection will now be carried out as a precautionary measure.

Currently monitoring is required at eight of the T.U.D. treatment facilities and four have shown the presence of cryptosporidium.

If the water is not treated it could cause an abdominal infection. Symptoms can include diarrhea, nausea and abdominal cramps.

Besides the monitoring for cryptosporidium, Seldon says that T.U.D. has “exceptional” water and typically ranks at the top when it comes to quality.
