Community Supports Memorial Day Ceremony

Sonora, CA — Operation MOM hosted a well attended ceremony at Courthouse Park in Sonora Friday afternoon to honor fallen soldiers.

Keynote speaker Jennifer Rapp asked the crowd to enjoy their barbeques this Memorial Day weekend, but to remember that it is not a time of celebration, rather a time to honor those who have died.

It was just over a year ago that her son, Sgt. Bobby Rapp, was killed in duty in Afghanistan.

Other speakers included Pat Padavana of Operation Mom and Frank Matranga of the VFW Post 3154. The Sonora High and Sonora Elementary bands were on hand to provide patriotic music.

Community members were encouraged to sign an honor scroll that will be sent to U.S. troops overseas.
