Grant Approved For Tuolumne County Juvenile Detention Center

Sonora, CA — A grant request of $16 million for a Tuolumne County Juvenile Detention Center has been approved by the Executive Steering Committee of the Corrections Standards Authority in Sacramento.

In December the Board of Supervisors decided to apply for the full amount of $16 million and this morning retiring County Probation Officer Shirlee Juhl announced the C.S.A. had rubber stamped the grant proposal.

Juhl added that of all the counties that applied Tuolumne finished first with a point total of 801.7 out of a possible 1,000 points. Alameda County finished second with 788 points.

The county will now be responsible for the remaining $5 million for the $21 million 30 bed facility. Currently Tuolumne County juvenile offenders are sent out of county.
