Sonora Police Department Cracks Identity Theft Case

Sonora, CA — A 42-year-old Sonora man has been arrested following a three week identity theft investigation.

A Concord man recently began receiving phone calls from credit card companies attempting to confirm that he had applied for lines of credit over the internet. The man suspected that his brother, Tyler Ricker of Sonora, was falsely using the suspect´s identity.

Police Chief Mark Stinson says officers were able to confirm that two credit cards were opened in the victim´s name, and mailed to a Sonora address. The Police Department conducted a search of Ricker´s residence and found cards in the victim´s name and $4,000 worth of stolen property. Ricker was taken into custody and booked into Tuolumne County Jail.
