300 Turkeys Killed In Morning Accident

Sonora, CA — Hundreds of turkeys were killed in a big rig accident Tuesday morning on Lyons Bald Mountain Road.

The CHP reports that Jaysen Hein of Jamestown was driving a Diestel Turkey Ranch truck carrying two trailers of live turkeys. Hein allowed the rear trailer to run off the roadway, collide with a dirt embankment, and overturn.

“Unfortunately, approximately 300 turkeys were killed,” says CHP Officer Mike Remmel. “Lyons Bald Mountain Road was one-way traffic for approximately two hours while the tow trucks up-righted the vehicle.”

Officer Remmel says Hein was cited by the CHP for allowing the vehicle to run off the roadway due to an unsafe turning motion. The accident was reported at around 6am, approximately two miles from the Greenley Road intersection. Hein was not injured.
