Calaveras County Burglary Arrest

Valley Springs, CA — Two men were arrested for burglary in Valley Springs.

44-year-old Gabriel Vargas and 36-year-old Tony Johnston were pulled over for a traffic stop on Garner Place Road because of a lighting violation. Vargas was found to be driving under the influence, so officials attempted to place him under arrest. Vargas tried to run away, and a CHP officer used a taser to subdue him.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies were also on scene and noticed several pieces of electronic equipment strewn out on the back seat of vehicle, as well as a piece of mail that was from a nearby residence. Deputies went to the home and noticed that the residence had been forced open. The electronics were later traced back to the home. Vargas and Johnston face charges of burglary and possession of stolen property.
