Roadwork To Slow Traffic In San Andreas

San Andreas, CA – Highway 49 will be down to one-way traffic control through a stretch in downtown San Andreas through tomorrow.

Caltrans crews have begun pavement repairs on the highway producing one-way traffic control from Gatewood Avenue to Pool Station Road for pavement repair through Thursday, June 13th.  The hours of operation are from 6:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., each day. The crews are working to shore up two big dig-outs, each nearly 4.5 football fields long (1,350’) by 12’ wide, where the road and its base were in danger of failing.

Maintenance Supervisor Dave Hawksworth relays that crews monitored the area throughout the winter over concerns that the wet, heavy rains would cause problems, but fortunately the pavement held up. He adds that to extend the life of the pavement through San Andreas and keep potholes from forming next winter, this warm weather is a good time to make the repairs.

The work consists of excavated the old roadway so that a new road base and pavement can be installed. The center turning lane will be used for traffic to keep delays minimal, advises Hawksworth, except when crews are moving equipment or addressing special issues that come up.
