Inclusionary Housing Review

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors are debating whether to suspend the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance.

The ordinance was passed in 2008 and requires developers to set aside 10 percent of new housing developments as affordable housing.

At Tuesday’s meeting the Supervisors voted to ask its Housing Policy Committee to meet and come forth with a recommendation in 45 days. Members of the building industry and affordable housing advocates will be involved in the discussion.

It was noted at the meeting that in 2006 the average home price in the county peaked at $332,000 and by 2009 it had fallen to $219,000. Some in the building industry are arguing that the ordinance is no longer necessary in creating affordable housing.
