Copperopolis, CA — The victim in that Sunday evening head-on collision on Hwy 4 at Copperopolis has been identified.

The C.H.P. reports that 23 year old Virginia Guzman of Manteca died as the result of her 1996 Saturn colliding with a 2008 Toyota minutes after 8pm.

Guzman was life-flighted to Memorial Medical Center where she died in the Emergency Room.

45 year old Eugenia Medina of Angels Camp was driving the Toyota. She, along with her passenger 38 year old Mario Tinicio also of Angels Camp, suffered major injuries and they were life-flighted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

The cause of this accident is still under investigation although it has been determined that the eastbound Guzman, for an unknown reason, crossed over the double yellow lines causing the accident.

Guzman’s death marks the third traffic related fatality of the year in Calaveras County.
