Tuolumne County Hopes To Buy Local

Sonora, CA – The Tuolumne County Supervisors are giving local companies incentive to bid on goods and service contracts.

When Tuolumne County purchases equipment, supplies or services from vendors the county looks for the best available price. If a Tuolumne County business is not the highest bidder, but within five percent, the county will now choose the local provider. Previously, the vendor price preference was three percent.

The increase in the percentage was approved with a 5-0 vote. It drew praise from organizations such as the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce.

The County believes that an increase to five percent will give more local vendors an opportunity to bid on projects where they are often under-bid by larger out of town companies.
