Calaveras Food Drive A Success

San Andreas, CA– Thanks to Calaveras County employees this year, the annual Stone Soup Food Drive was a huge success.

Jeannie Hayward, Program Director of the Resource Connection Food Bank, says she was pleased to see county staff rally together to help raise funds for holiday food programs.

“3,000 pounds of food and $2,000 in donations came to the Food Bank on Halloween,” said Hayward. “We were amazed by the great costumes, decorations with food and creativity the employees displayed this year. Many departments tried to out-do each other by vying for the perpetual Stone Soup Award. The Award went to Behavioral Health who collected $1300 for the Food Bank.”

Hayward says the Food Bank plans on serving about 900 families at Thanksgiving and at least that many for Christmas this year.

She adds that there is currently a huge need for donated turkeys. Frozen turkeys can be brought directly to the Food Bank at 206 George Reed Drive in San Andreas.
