Berryhill Praises Brown’s Plan

Sacramento, CA — Republican Senator Tom Berryhill is praising Governor Jerry Brown’s pension reform efforts.

Governor Brown released his 12 point pension reform plan Thursday. A notable change would be to increase the retirement age for new employees from 55 to 67. The plan has gained opposition from numerous union groups.

“The pension reform plan contains many of the proposals that Senate Republicans have been pushing for and make substantial changes that will help California,” says Berryhill. As long as the language reflects these proposals and there are safeguards to protect these reforms, I feel confident in giving this proposal my support.”

Brown says if his plan is fully implemented, it will cut about half the cost to taxpayers for providing pension benefits for state employees.

Berryhill’s District 14 Senate district includes Tuolumne County.
