Register Online To Vote

Sonora, CA — Californians will soon be allowed to register to vote online.

Governor Jerry Brown has signed SB 397, which will allow voter registration via the internet.
“I think this is really positive,” says Debi Russell, Tuolumne County Clerk and Auditor-Controller. “For the 20 and 30 something’s that are used to being on the internet, it gives them a new avenue to register and vote.”

You will need a valid driver’s license to register online. State elections officials and the DMV will match online voter registration documents with driver’s license information containing an electronic signature.

It is not immediately known when the new online program will be implemented, but state officials say it will be prior to the 2012 elections.

Voters will still have the option of registering the old fashioned way.
