Radanovich Joins Group Filing Lawsuit

Sacramento, CA — Former Congressman George Radanovich and four others have filed a lawsuit challenging the new Congressional maps.

The Sacramento Bee reports that the lawsuit argues that three Los Angeles district lines were drawn to protect incumbents. It argues that the redistricting commission failed to ensure the obligation that one or two of those districts had a majority of African American voters.

The new maps were finalized by the Citizen’s Redistricting Commission in August.

The lawsuit, filed with the California Supreme Court, asks that the 53 Congressional boundaries be redrawn. Republicans could lose seats because of the newly drawn lines.

Radanovich retired as the District 19 Congressman in 2010.
