Suspected Don Pedro Drowning

Don Pedro, CA — Officials are looking for a man that they believed drowned in Lake Don Pedro Thursday night.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reports that 67-year-old Joseph Crilly of London, England called to report that his friend had apparently drowned. Crilly stated that the two were swimming near the end of Grizzly Road in Don Pedro Lake when the friend started panicking and began to thrash in the water. After several unsuccessful attempts to help, Crilly’s friend went under and did not resurface.

The Sheriff’s Office Boat Patrol searched the area last night, but could not locate the missing man. Another search involving remote controlled under water recovery vehicles is underway this morning.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently withholding the name of the victim. The incident was reported at 7:45pm.
