County Addresses Illegal Dumping

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County is requesting state funds to help cleanup an illegal dump site.

The private property, located at 12610 Big Hill Road, is owned by a disabled individual who can no longer utilize an access road near the residence. The area is considered unsafe because unknown residents have been illegally dumping their trash. The County’s Solid Waste Division recommended that the Board of Supervisors request available state grant funding to pay for the cleanup. The estimated cost is $16,000.

Assembly Bill 2136 provides funding for cleanup projects when the responsible party cannot be located, and the site is considered a risk to public health.

The Supervisors approved the grant request with a 4-0 vote. There was also discussion at the meeting about looking into the idea of placing cameras in the area in hopes of preventing future illegal dumping.
