Sacramento, CA — A bill has been approved in the Senate that that would make it easier for non-profits to take over state parks set for closure.
70 California state parks are scheduled to be closed next year, including Railtown 1897 in Jamestown. The Associated Press reports that the legislation was approved 32-2, and would eliminate some of the steps and red tape required for non-profits to take over operations. The bill, and its amendments, now moves over to the Assembly for a vote.
The 70 closures will save California over $33 million. A group has been formed in Tuolumne County to look at ways to keep Railtown open. To read a past article, click here.
