California Must Return Federal Dollars

Sacramento, CA — The Federal Government has asked the California Department of Education to return a $6 million grant that was designed to create a database to track teacher and administrator performance.

The Associated Press reports that the state received the funding, but then Governor Jerry Brown axed $2.4 million from the program as part of budget cuts. Because of this, the feds say the grant money must be returned. The state unsuccessfully tried to persuade the federal government to let them use the money for other projects.
