Ahwannee Reopens Following Restoration

Yosemite, CA — After being closed for three weeks because of renovations, the Ahwahnee Hotel is back open today in Yosemite National Park.

“There’s brand new flooring in the great lounge, a new kitchen floor, new carpets, bedding, and painting,” says Park Ranger Scott Gediman. “It looks absolutely fantastic.”

Contractors also installed a new fire alarm and sprinkler suppression system. There are newly remodeled restrooms, energy efficient appliances, and historical artifacts were refurbished. It was a joint project between the National Park Service and DNC Parks and Resorts at Yosemite, Inc (park concessionaire).

It is the first time that the Ahwahnee Hotel has had a major upgrade since the 1940’s. The hotel was completed in 1927 and is a registered National Historic Landmark. The building was commissioned by Stephen T. Mather, the first Director of the National Park Service.
