Sonora, CA– The Sonora City Council last night agreed to participate in a working group formed to continue the evaluation of a Fire and First Responders Study. It was unanimously approved 4-0.
“There’s a lot of work that the working group’s going to be looking at, the structure of any change in the organization, opportunities for improving the efficiency of the delivery service, cost saving measures that may come out of that and changes in service areas, said Sonora City Administrator Tim Miller. “We’ll have to see what comes of those recommendations and evaluate if it makes sense to participate in a JPA.”
A Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) would streamline costs and services. Tuolumne County has been encouraging the various fire and first responder agencies to work together to streamline costs and services.
Other fire agencies that have expressed a willingness to participate are Groveland, Tuolumne and Jamestown.
Last night the City Council also approved the closure of Highway 49 on May 7th for the Mother Lode Roundup Parade.
