Sonora Area Foundation Year End Report

Sonora, CA — A new blog by Executive Director of the Sonora Area Foundation, Ed Wyllie, provides a summary of the Foundation’s activities. He also reports the end of the year totals for the competitive grant program. The foundation awarded $627,545 this year to local non-profit organizations.

Wyllie says “Whenever I am asked about the Foundation, it is always very satisfying to talk about our grantmaking – over $17 million since 1990 by the Foundation and our two supporting organizations, the Symons Family Fund and the Irving J. Symons Foundation for Tuolumne County.”

Wyllie provides examples of what donor funds have been able to help with locally. He also notes that just under $6,000 has been donated through the foundation to their Hurricane Sandy Fund so far. The funds were granted to Island Harvest in New York City and the Community Foundation of New Jersey to assist victims of the hurricane.
