Democrats Gain More Ground In Senate

Sacramento, CA — Democrats have padded their supermajority in the State Senate, as the brother of Mother Lode Senator Tom Berryhill will not be returning to the legislature.

Bill Berryhill was leading on election night in the Senate District Five race, but the provisional ballots went the way of Democrat Kathleen Gagliani. The Associated Press has now called the race for Gagliani. Democrats are now two seats over the 2/3rds supermajority line in the Senate. It is significant because it takes a 2/3rds majority in order to pass any tax increases. Democrats will also have a 2/3rds majority in the Assembly.
