Fire Season Coming To Close

San Andreas, CA — CAL Fire will transition into what is referred to as “winter preparedness” next week.

CAL Fire will begin releasing seasonal firefighters, reducing the staffing on engines, and close some of the remote fire stations. The transition begins this coming Monday at 8am. At that point, burn permits in Tuolumne and Calaveras County will not be needed until next next May. However, in Calaveras County, burning on five acres or more requires a permit from the Calaveras Air Pollution Control District. In Tuolumne County, clearing two acres or more requires a permit from the APCD.

You are only allowed to burn on “permissive burn days.” Officials are encouraging everyone to keep a close eye on burn piles. Escaped burns are still a major concern this time of year. It is also not advised to burn on days when it is windy.
