Supervisors Approve Hiring Jail Commander

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors have green-lighted a plan to hire a new Jail Commander.

The county has been talking about the issue over the past several months. County Administrator Craig Pedro stated at today’s Supervisors meeting that some of the money will come from the state’s AB 109 program.

“The Community Corrections Partnership Team voted to fund half of the Jail Commander’s salary and benefits, which equals $62,500,” says Pedro. “In exchange, the Sheriff agreed to defund one-of-two previously approved jail deputies.”

“In addition, the AB 109 funding will pay $20,000 for a permanent part-time Sheriff’s clerk, with the assignment to process increased evidence from the Sheriff, Probation and District Attorney,” added Pedro.

The negotiated agreement was approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors.
