Future Uncertain For Lungren

Sacramento, CA — It is unknown if Calaveras County’s current U.S. House member will remain in the legislature.

Dan Lungren faced off against Democrat Ami Bera in the District Seven race. The newly drawn district is centered in the Sacramento region. The Secretary of State’s Office reports this morning that Bera has 88,406 (50.1%) votes to Lungren’s 88,220 (49.9%).

Elections officials reported late Wednesday afternoon that there are still around 190,000 ballots to process. They warn that it could take a week before we know the final outcome of the race. Federal observers flew into Sacramento yesterday to ensure that every ballot is properly processed.

Meanwhile, Tuolumne County’s current U.S. House member Jeff Denham successfully won re-election by defeating Jose Hernandez, 54% to 46%.

Following redistricting, both Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties will soon be represented by Tom McClintock, who defeated Jack Uppal by a margin of 61% to 39%.
