Missing Elderly Man Found

Mokelumne Hill, CA — Calaveras County Sheriff’s Officials got a call around 9:40 this morning from residents in the Boston Hill Neighborhood just off of Highway 26 saying they thought the man in their neighborhood was missing 79-year-old Duane Gates.

Sgt. Chris Hewitt says, “The caller said they found him sitting at the bottom of a hill.” He adds “When deputies and paramedics arrived, he was unable to provide a statement due to his mental state and he was flown out to a Modesto area hospital for evaluation.”

Hewitt says the Gates family informed the sheriff’s office that Duane Gates suffers from dementia. He says they hope to interview Gate tomorrow to get more details on his disappearance.

Hewitt says they do not suspect any foul play.
