Tuolumne County Passes Budget

Sonora, CA – The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 in favor of the $53 million budget. Two Supervisors, Evan Royce and John Gray did not vote as they were absent due to illness.

The budget includes more revenue than what was anticipated earlier in the year. That allowed the county to add or restore several positions. Five of the new positions are funded through AB109 which realigns certain responsibilities for lower level offenders, adult parolees and juvenile offenders from state to local jurisdictions. It gives local law enforcement the right and the ability to manage offenders with funding from the state.

County Positions:

Sheriff Office:
1 Sheriff’s Sergeant
2 Deputy Sheriff
1 Sheriff’s Detective
2 Jail Deputy Sheriff (funding provided by AB 109)

Probation (All funding provided by AB 109):
1 Deputy Probation Officer
1 Probation Technician
1 Probation Legal Clerk

District Attorney: 3 positions
1 Legal Clerk
2 Victim Witness Advocates

Other positions restored were the Deputy County Counsel, a Facilities Department Housekeeper, an Animal Control Department Senior Office Assistant and a CRA Senior Building Inspector. Money available from retirements created two positions, a CRA Planner 1 and Civil Engineer.
