A Weed Trimmer Sparks A Blaze

Calaveras County, CA – CAL Fire reports a resident doing yard work with a metal blade weed trimmer ignited flames in the dry tall grass he was trying to cut.

It happened in Calaveras County on the 2000 block of Prussian Hill Road in Railroad Flat around noon on Tuesday. Crews worked nearly 3 hours to put out the quarter acre blaze.

CAL Fire Spokesperson Nancy Longmore reminds residents not to use lawn equipment that has a metal blade when it’s dry and hot outside as it can spark a blaze. Instead, she says to use a weed eater with a plastic string. Longmore also provided several tips including, having water nearby incase of fire, and try to do your mowing before 10 a.m.
