Financial Review State Mental Health

Sacramento, CA – Is the money approved getting to where the voters wanted it to go? That’s the question California’s Auditor is being asked to answer.

The Associated Press reports the state auditor will review some of California’s mental health spending. The auditor is checking to determine whether money from a 2004 ballot initiative is being spent the way voters intended. The Joint Legislative Audit Committee unanimously approved the eight-month study this week.

The Associated Press found that tens of millions of dollars raised from it has gone to programs for people who have not been diagnosed with any mental illness.
