Calaveras Visitors Bureau Wants A Marketing Edge

Calaveras County, CA — The Bureau is calling on local businesses to help fund a new Tourism Marketing District or TMD. They are calling on local businesses to help fund a new Tourism Marketing District or TMD.

Calaveras Visitors Bureau President, Steve Markle, says the TDM would be created through an assessment. That is typically an added charge on lodging, but can also extend to tourist attractions like wine tasting rooms, recreation facilities, golf courses and more. Markle says the amount can vary from a 1 to 2 percent charge or a flat rate like $1 per occupied room, or night, or paying participant.

Markle says they are competing with all other counties in California to bring tourist dollars home. He says starting a TMD will put the county on a level playing field.

Markle stresses they are just exploring the idea right now, but if funding is approved, the TMD could be up and running next year.
