Teaming Up To Raise Scholarship Funding

Sonora, CA — Last night was the band review and tonight it’s the Calcutta where teams compete for funds as we count down to this weekend’s Mother Lode Round-up.

The Calcutta teams up cowboys and cowgirls to help rope in money to fund local student scholarships. Round-up Historian Ty Wivell details, “It auctions off the calf scramble teams and the different competitors are walking around the room and people are bidding on them.”

Part of the proceeds goes to the annual Sheriff’s Posse scholarship program. The Calcutta begins tonight (Thursday) at 6 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds located on Rawhide Road in Jamestown. Admission is free.

The main events kick off on Saturday morning with the big parade down Washington Street in downtown Sonora, followed by the Rodeo at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. For a list of all the Mother Lode Round-up activities, click here or put in the keyword “Roundup” on the mymotherlode.com homepage.
