Rock For The Track At Sonora High

The first ever “Rock For the Track” fundraiser will take place this Saturday at Sonora High School.

Chris Bateman of the Sonora High Foundation, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Rock For the Track is a fundraising event that will take place at Sonora High School’s Dunlavy field this Saturday from 5 – 9PM.

Three bands will be performing including Chains Required, The Black Irish Band and the Hills Brothers. The bands are playing for free.

Additionally, craft booths and food will be available.

Bateman will be the evening’s emcee.

The admission is ten dollars for adults and five dollars for children (twelve and under).

This is the latest event in trying to raise money for the outdated and diminshing track. The estimated cost for a new track is $800,000. Over the past several years, only $60,000 has been raised.

According to Bateman, the state Department of Education will not contribute to the replacement of the Sonora High School Track.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
