Highway 26 Is Shut Down After Car Crash

Calaveras County, CA —

Highway 26 is now shut down after a car crash brings down power lines near West Point.

Traffic is at a standstill and CHP is asking motorist to avoid the area as it is very dangerous with live wires on the roadway.

A car went over an embankment at the intersection of highway 26 and Higdon road. CHP is reporting one person trapped in that car. There is no word on injuries.

Update: The eastbound lane is now opened. However, CHP says the west bound lane will remain clossed until about 7pm as PG & E fixes the lines. They also say one person was trapped in the car, but their injuries are minor.
