Pair Injured In Crash

Two people were flown to hospitals in Modesto following a crash on Mather Road near Cherry Lake.

The CHP reports that 25-year-old Katherine McKay of Indianapolis lost control of her Chrysler while going into a curve last night. The vehicle went down a steep mountainside and overturned several times. The CHP says McKay was ejected from the vehicle, as she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The only passenger in the vehicle, 29-year-old Virginia Gwaltney of Indianapolis, was able to get out and climb up the mountainside. She flagged down a UPS truck and was able to call 911.

Gwaltney was flown to Memorial Medical Center to treat what were described as moderate injuries, while McKay was flown to Doctors Medical Center to treat major injuries.

Both are seasonal employees at the Evergreen Lodge in Groveland. The accident happened at 5:30pm. The CHP says there were no signs that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
