Sonora’s Certified Farmers Market Returns

With the calendar now reading Spring, it is time for the Sonora Certified Farmers Market to begin.

Sheala Wilkenson, City of Sonora Marketing Manager, was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Wilkenson said that the Sonora Certified Farmers market will open on Saturday May 19th and will every Saturday morning through October.

For the consumer, the term “certified” means that the farmer is selling his or her food directly to those attending the market. If a market isn’t certified, it could mean that the seller bought the food from a farmer for resale. The purchaser isn’t necessarily assured of the foods origin.

Craft booths can also be found at the Farmers Market. Wilkenson said that the City requires that all crafts sold, are directly made by those who are doing the selling.

Erin O’Hare returns as the Market Supervisor again for her fifth year.

The Farmer’s Market runs every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. through October 20th and is located on Theall and Stewart Street in Downtown Sonora.

Wilkenson can be reached at (209) 532-7725.

The KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
