Big Donation For Big Trees

Calaveras County, CA — A group has made an $83,000 donation towards the future Calaveras Big Trees State Park Visitor Center.

The $2.7 million Visitor Center is expected to be completed by late next year. An official groundbreaking ceremony was held last June. The Calaveras Big Trees Association announced this week that $83,000 has been gifted by the group Save the Redwoods League. The new funding will be used to help furnish the center’s bookstore and offices that will be used by volunteers and CBTA staff.

The project itself was funded by voter approved state bonds, and a $500,000 donation from the CBTA. The CBTA funding included private donations accrued over a 15 year period.
The two new buildings that will comprise the completed center will include a museum exhibit hall, expanded training facilities, bookstore, reception area and improved access to the North Grove hiking trail.
