Recent Storms Improve Water Outlook

The recent storms over the past week have improved the water supply outlook for the Tuolumne Utilities District.

T.U.D. Associate Engineer Glen Nunnelley reports that the Sonora area received 3.5 inches of precipitation, bringing the yearly total to 15 inches. That’s better than the record drought year of 1976-77 when only 10 inches had been received by the end of March. However, a typical year has around 30 inches of precipitation by this time. Rain and snow is relied on every year to replenish the main water supply for the district, with storage at Pinecrest and Lyons Reservoir.

T.U.D. continues to call for voluntary Stage II Water Conservation Measures. This includes limiting outside watering and checking drip systems for any type of leaks. For more water conservation information click on www.tudwater.com.
