Vanderheiden Remains Mystery

San Andreas, CA — Law enforcement officials spent Friday in rural Calaveras County looking for the remains of Cyndi Vanderheiden, who has not been seen since 1999.

The search for Vanderheiden’s remains was carried out by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Justice. They were using a letter mailed to the Stockton Record newspaper by convicted killer Wesley Shermantine, claiming to pinpoint Vanderheiden’s remains.

Investigators searched for several hours Friday, using shovels and the aid of a cadaver dog, but produced no results. Shermantine’s partner in crime, Loren Herzog, committed suicide last week while on parole from state prison. Officials say there are no immediate plans for future searches at this time.
