Sonora Man Rescued From Mendocino Cliff

Mendocino, CA– According to Sonoma County Sheriff Lt. Tim Duke, 48-year-old Joseph Ernstr of Sonora was injured after a wave slammed him into a Mendocino cliff late last week.

Ernstr was at the bottom of the 300-foot cliff off Navarro Bluff Road, south of the Navarro River mouth, when a large wave pushed him into rocks. Ernstr’s hip was injured and he was unable to move.

Paramedics from local agencies used ropes to climb to the bottom of the cliff and provide aid to Ernstr. A helicopter crew put him into a basket and hoisted him to an ambulance. Ernstr was taken to a local hospital to treat his injuries.

His current condition is not known.
