Lightning Strike May Have Contributed To Death

Tuolumne County, CA — Limited information is available, but officials confirm that a woman died in the Baker Campground in the Stanislaus National Forest, and lightning is believed to be a contributing factor.

A CAL Fire official reports that they were notified of the situation at 3:54pm. It is not immediately known if the lightning struck the woman directly, or if the shock of it striking so closely could have caused another medical problem. The Coroner is investigating.

The woman was in her late sixties. A young family member nearby was not injured.

The Baker Campground is 29 miles east of Pinecrest off Highway 108 on Kennedy Meadow Road, near Deadman Campground and Kennedy Meadow Trailhead. Click here to view a map.
