Cleanup Planned Following Vandalism At Riverside Day Use Area

Tuolumne, CA — Vandalism, including spray painted picnic tables, walkways and grills, occurred in the Riverside Day Use area in the Stanislaus National Forest, and volunteers are planning to help clean it up later this week.

The area known as Basin Creek is approximately three miles east of Tuolumne on Buchanan Mine Road. The area reopened for the season earlier this month, but is now closed for recreation until at least after Friday, according to spokesperson Diana Fredlund. The Forest Service reports that volunteers wishing to help repaint and clean the damaged area should meet at the Riverside Day Use Area this Friday at 9:30am. Paint and equipment will be provided, but volunteers should bring work gloves, water and snacks. An investigation is underway regarding who could be responsible for the vandalism.
