New Miss Calaveras

Chelsea Ruthrauff is the new Miss Calaveras.


The competition is one of the traditional events on day-one of the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. 10 candidates competed for the title before a packed crowd in the grandstand. Ruthrauff, a senior at Calaveras High School, played the tuba during the talent competition. She plans to attend Sonoma State next near and study biology.


The first runner-up was Nicole Huddy, a Senior at Bret Harte High School, and the second runner up was Shelby Reese, a senior at Calaveras High School.


Also of note, Julia Kalika won the 2013 Saddle Queen competition yesterday. She is a junior at Bret Harte High School. The four-day fair continues through Sunday.
