MTMC Adds Specialty Care

San Andreas, CA – The Mark Twain Medical Center Specialty Care Clinic is expanding to include care of hepatitis and gastroenterology patients.

MTMC reports that Dr. Ian Renner from Southern California will head the clinic.

Dr. Renner says, “Chronic Hepatitis C is quickly becoming a serious public health problem in the United States. A smoldering epidemic called Hepatitis C already affects an estimated 4 million Americans, and about 200 million people worldwide, most of whom don’t even realize they are infected by this deadly virus.”

MTMC Officials say the U.S. Center for Disease Control estimates that there are 170,000 new cases of Hep-C each year and more than four times as many people are infected with the virus than HIV-AIDS. A patient can go without symptoms for decades and then be hit with liver failure.
