Sacramento, CA — Congressman Tom McClintock this week he gave comments on the House floor regarding his strong opposition to the proposed Merced River Plan. The plan and its exhibits are over 4,000 pages proposing that the National Park Service remove tourist facilities from Yosemite National Park. Facilities to be removed include bicycle and raft rentals, snack facilities, gift shops, horseback riding, the ice rink at Curry Village, tennis courts and swimming pools, the art center and the historic stone Sugar Pine Bridge.
McClintock states that the justification for this plan was the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. He argues “The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act was never intended to apply to the Merced River within Yosemite National Park at all.”
